    Hello Rick

I have an HP Photosmart 5510 Printer which, up until today, was connected by WiFi to my Mac and iPads.

Although it has been able to print a status report for me, the devices mentioned all insist that they are not connected to it and consequently nothing can be printed. Please can you help?

    Thank you

    Hello

have a problem and need some assistance… i bought a list of parts to build my own desktop comp to save money on buying one i found at a computer store in towerpark. i ordered all the parts from amazon and proceeded to put it all together. i am not an professional but certainly know enough to get myself into trouble and after putting it all together i started it up.. now here comes the problem.. it starts up with the usual lights and fan kicking in but after a few seconds it shuts off.. then waits a few seconds then starts up and trys again then again goes off again. from experiance i would have said it would be a case of loose ram or power connecter but i think i have found the rough area of the problem.

there are 2 main power sockets on my motherboard.. with just the main one (24 pin) plugged it the computer fires up and stays on but when the second one (ATX_12V_2X4) is plugged in the problem starts. now from what i googled that is the power for the CPU so i am guessing it is either a dodgy socket on the board/PSU or it is down to the i5 itself. i dont really want to take it to PC world or anything thats going to cost me a small fortune to fix as that makes the excerise of putting this together myself to save money pointless but after spending a couple of hours messing around with it yesterday which didnt get me anyway i really just want to take it to someone whos knows exactly what they are doing to sort this issue for me.

any ideas what this is or how much it would cost to correct

    thanks

    Steve

    Hello Rick

We have just installed a new printer, an Epsom XP442, and have installed the wireless connection and all seems to be working. However, I cannot print an email unless I save the email into my documents and then print it from there. Especially important if it is a receipt or order. Is there any way that I can print the email direct by just selecting ‘print’?

    Many thanks.

Hello. I am one of those hopeless people when it comes to computers and all modern technology. Some years ago I purchased a vista laptop and HP all in one printer. I really only type a few letters, online buying and emails. However months ago it all broke down and gave up on me. I was given an iPad which I have used a lot. Now I need to print some labels but cannot do this because the printer is not wireless. What I would like to know:

Can a laptop of this age be repaired.
Can the printer be altered to wireless.
Would it be cheaper to buy a new printer and perhaps think about a laptop.

Perhaps you could give me some idea.

Hi Rick, not sure if you can help but I want to install Windows on my Mac using bootcamp to run Ms Access & Publisher. (Many old files). Can I just download the Windows os and will bootcamp install easily and, subsequently, the same with the ms files as my Access and Publisher disks out dated. Or is it best to buy on disk over usb drive? Or do you have a better (cheaper) solution?
I live in Poole and am OAP. My computer knowledge is dated at Windows 3 and original Access databases.

      Hello Peter,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

As well as Bootcamp you will need to purchase a copy of Windows 10 and a copy Microsoft Office 365 Personal.

I’m not sure whether the current versions of Access and Publisher will open files made with the oldest version of these products. I would test this out first before spending any money.

      Hope this helps.

After all your brilliant work on the Mac, I thought I would be leaving you alone for some time….not so. We have just returned from holiday and I have two problems.

1] I have forgotten my password for accessing my side of the Mac! How can I overcome this, please?
2] I had to change an email password recently and now my iPad insists I am not matching the right password to my account so I cannot see ANY emails on there. I have no problem using the Mac. I have tried to solve this by changing the password again but the status hasn’t changed. What do you suggest?

I hope you can work your magic again.

    best wishes

      Hello Linda,

Firstly, your logon password can be changed by another administrator user account (Michael’s) or using the Password Recovery Assistant. Secondly, on the iPad, you may have to delete the email account and then add it again. I would first check you are using the correct password for the correct account email account and are typing it in correctly, paying attention to the case of the letters. Remember, the iOS 8.x or earlier keyboard always shows uppercase letters even though you are typing in lower case.

        Hello Rick

Thank you for this. If I delete the account, will it be deleted completely….ie on all other devices?….or is that just for the iPad and I can then reinstate it on the iPad.

        Linda

If you delete the email account from the iPad it will only be deleted from the iPad and not anywhere else. You are only deleting the mailbox settings from the iPad not the email account itself.

            Hello Rick

The iPad is now functioning correctly again thanks to your advice. However, the Mac is still resting my attempts to access it. I went through Michael as user to change the password as you suggested but, once onto the desktop, I was confronted with repeated boxes requiring a password for a ‘keychain’. I have tried all sorts to escape this including attempting to put in a new password. Nothing seems to free me from them.

Any more suggestions? It is not urgent as I am using Michael’s side of the computer at present and this seems to be ok for us. However, it may constitute a long term issue.

            Sorry to be a bother.

    Hello Rick

Do you work on Macs? Yesterday the cursor on ours stopped working, then the screen was decorated by pixels of light before it froze. At first we were told, by the machine, to switch off and then on again. This happened a few times, giving us a little time to work beforehand, but we only saw the message on a couple of occasions. However, the last time we tried to switch it on, the problem occurred immediately, there was no message and we had to switch off.
There had been no previous issues other than that we suspected it was working a little more slowly, which we put down to its age!
    Hope you can help.

    Hi there,
Just enquiring whether you repair broken tablet screens I was given a blaupunkt tablet a couple of years ago by my eldest son he got it at Sainsbury’s but they do not do that product any more and he cannot find the receipt for it, it has a cracked screen, my husband brought me a bush tablet the first one he brought he took it back as it kept flashing on and off this one I am not happy with as he got me a replacement for me which was another bush tablet and I’m still not happy with it as every so often the screen freezes
or the screen goes blue and nothing goes on, so I was thinking of taking this one back getting my money back and hopefully put the money towards repairing it or getting a new blaupunkt tablet on line.
Hopefully you can help me or perhaps put me on to someone that might be able to repair it

      Hello Lynn,

If your Bush tablet is faulty you should take it back to the retailer and get your money back. As for the Blaupunkt, it’s probably not worth repairing. A good alternative would be a Samsung Galaxy Tab or a Google Nexus. You can get these in various sizes.

Can you help with wifi connectivity? We are in Corfe Mullen in a cob wall, thatch at bottom of valley surrounded by large trees! We have a Netgear plug in extender but this regularly has to be reset – almost daily. However quite often laptop can be connected but Apple products are not (iPad, iPhone, Mac) and again we have to reset extender. I have just got BT Hub 5 which is best available at moment. I previously had two extenders which worked but when I recently tried second one again there seemed to be some sort of conflict. If you can help can you give me an idea of how much it will cost? Thanks

Very pleased with service and fair price. I would recommend him as he is also very personable and friendly and offered lots of further advice thrown in for free!
